The 2011 Nevada County Reads selection is The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.

This novel takes place in 1939 Nazi Germany.   The character Death reflects on a nine year old Liesel, who is the Book Thief.   Death has saved a book of her recollections that tells the story of that time period through her words, and his eyes and heart.  By focusing on the innocence of children and the ten percent of German population that did not sympathize with the politics of the time, the author sheds light on what everyday life might have been like during that time.
